PROFILE

Harsha Biswajit, is a digital fine artist working in New York City. He works with a diverse range of media -from drawings, to digital photography, video and sculpture, often infusing them together in search of a balance/relationship between the traditional and the modern. Taking references from philosophy, literature, economics and politics, his works weave around issues of dualities between humans and nature, ecology, and time. The representation of animals posing as a mirror to society is the central motif that runs throughout the work. His recent work has revolved around deconstructing the environment, thereby questioning the nature of different actors within (humans, nature, technology, etc), and the relationships between them. His ecological curiosity was first sparked when writing his thesis on ‘climate change’ while pursuing a MA in International Political Economy. The obvious lack of political will seem to suggest there was a deeper ideological problem of perception towards the environment that science, despite its numerous findings, wasn’t able to change. As an artist today, his interest extends deeper than moral propaganda, and lies in exploring and representing a world behind such choices. Art has the ability to affect public perception and he strives to utilize this parallel platform to provoke and engage the viewer in relevant issues outside of the political and economic realm.
